We have a family tradition of having a "Screen-Free Summer". Some summers are stricter than others. We've had some fun summers where we had no TV or video games whatsoever and the kids really enjoyed spending time outdoors and with each other. This year will have to be more of a compromise. We set up some parameters where the kids can do some TV/Video Games/Audiobooks while having far less than we had during the school year. Freed from restrictions, our kids will watch HOURS of TV, often the same episodes of the same shows ad nauesam.
So, today, as the first official day of semi-screen-free-summer went really well. The kids spent much of the day playing switch together on the big screen: Untitled Goose and Mario Kart. That's the rule-- if you play video games inside, you have to play multiplayer. Betty is getting decent at Mario Kart, and can hold her own against Edgar, Sabrina, and I.
Sabrina had her friend Macy over for much of the day, and the girls had fun playing in sprinklers and on the trampoline.
I tried most of the day to talk the kids into cleaning the car out (for spending money on our upcoming beach trip!), but ended up with no takers, so I had to clean out our grody car. Got a tiny bit of help from Jen and Betty, so all was not completely lost.
In the continuing saga of trying to get Ida to eat more, she did her first major projectile vomit today. She got all over herself and Jen.
Success!
I took the big kids to the library. That's always fun. After that, I snuggled Ida while Jen took the big kids to do some last-minute father's day shopping.
Sabrina came home from shopping with this story that she insisted go on my blog: Jen was in the car with the kids, and, as is custom, they were loud and obnoxious. Jen told them she was losing her mind. Betty pipes up "I know how to lose your mind! You find a brick wall, and run into it very hard with your head."
Settled in this evening to watch Everything Everywhere All at Once. Only got through the first hour, but it's as weird and interesting as everyone says it is.
It was a good day. Time to sleep now.
